A Vision Of The Future Of the Internet With Adobe Air

Posted in General & Caribbean & marketing | 02:46

We keep hearing that everything will be online.

Everyone is saying it but I am sure that some of you do not have and insights as to how "everything will move online. I decided to take some time to offer a little insight to this.

One simple and fundamental way our concept of the internet is changing is, using services which are not based within the browser. As great as the internet is today, we still do most things from within the confines of our browser.
Imagine if didn't have to have one tab for youtube, another for email and one for twitter. Imagine if all these all services were actually on your desktop in the same way that you use Msn? or Skype?

Allow me to feature the Adobe Air platform. Abobe Air is making it easy for developers to build some of these services into applications you can access from your desktop. You won't really appreciate this unless you get to using it.  Alrite here are some of the applications I like -

Tell me if they were not cool? I really do absolutely love the Twhirl application.
I am wondering though, when I can see some of our Caribbean developers developing some applications for Adobe Air?

Think about it - How about a Directory of Caribbean Radio Stations? Including online stations?

Adobe Air is just one platform there are others. Remember also that these applications might start on your personal computer but might end up on your TV? Or your cell? Maybe even your watch? Think about it .... remember - EVERYTHING moving online?

P.S. If you are working on such a project or know of any, feel free to send me an email about it - corey@coreykgraham.com.

Adding Depth of The Caribbean Online Community Through Networking 2.0

Posted in General & Caribbean & social Networking & marketing & Network | 01:10

In 2009 I decided to put more effort into building networks of people. Corey Graham 2.0 N I call it. I believe that in the Caribbean we do not have many of our meaningful discussions online especially in terms of sharing ideas among ourselves. We are not truly sharing our experiences and perspectives with each other in a way that will make us all better, and help to develop our Entertainment Industry for example. I strongly believe that this can be an important step in building a Caribbean Community.

Be The Change You Want To See In The World

About a year ago I started a group on the business networking site linkedin.com called the Caribbean Entertainment Professionals Group. This is one of my initiatives to make sure I stick on the positive side and providing a solution rather than magnifying the problem. This group features persons from around the globe who are interested in Caribbean Entertainment and in many cases depend on the Caribbean Entertainment Industry to pay the bills.

Admittedly when I started it, I knew I did not have enough time to nurture it and activate the conversation. However, recently I have been able to have some very enlightening coversations on it giving me a better "world view" of the things happening in the entertainment industry.

Take a look at the group. Feel free to post your appropriate blog posts and other RELATED material on the group for discussion.

I encourage you to start a group for your industry today!

The Steel Pan Has Evolved Into P.H.I. - A Caribbean Innovation ..... The Magic Drum

Posted in General & Caribbean & business & marketing & thinking and ideas | 23:09

I am one to always support innovation in the Caribbean... We all know Trinidad Carnival is in full swing and Mr Machel Montano is singing about some "Magic Drum". I knew it was a steel pan tune but little did i know it was not an ordinary steel pan, Machel was singing about. It is actually the P.H.I.

Yeah that is right P.H.I. - Percussive Harmonic Instrument or PHI (pronounced “Fie”). It was developed in the Steel Pan Research Laboratory of the UWI St. Augustine Campus.

"P.H.I. merges the powerful facility of MIDI with a physical form inspired by the traditional steelpan. MIDI is an acronym for Musical Instrument Device Interface; MIDI facilitates the communication of electronic music synthesizers over a network."

Basically, the P.H.I. allows the steel pannist to play his music as usual. However he can now make the output sound like anything he likes. A piano? Guitar?

Yup, that's it. The Magic Drum. The P.H.I. is now here. and ready for shipping! There is no price on the website but I am sure its going to cost a pretty penny!

I must also commend them on their 2.0 marketing. Its early days yet and they have a Facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/pages/St-Augustine/PHI-PercussiveHarmonicInstrument/52268949383

a youtube page -
http://www.youtube.com/phiteamvids

Along with a website of course - http://www.panadigm.com

Innovation in the Caribbean. I am all for it! And to top it off. There are some of the videos of Machel Performing with the P.H.I.

The REAL Impact of Social Media

Posted in General & Corey Graham 2.0 & Caribbean & business & social Networking & marketing & New Media & management & Blogging & personal growth & Network & thinking and ideas | 02:46

There is a revolution taking place in the world right now. People are being empowered via web 2.0 technologie/social media. Its now easier to get your voice or music heard via blogs and social networks. Its not only about the voice, we are all now much more capable people. You can launch you own radio station within minutes!!!!!

I personally think the way we interact with each other is changing in a very fundamental way and we are not truly appreciating it. Web 2.0 technology - Social Media  is a technology. Technology is merely a tool for us complete our various tasks.

Being social is really the big idea here. Facebook, myspace, linkedin etc. are just tools. They are tools which make it easier for us to accomplish our various tasks. Its easy to get caught up with the facts, how many users facebook has or how many blog posts you wrote last month. The core concept is connecting with people.

Its allowed me to be more connected with persons across the world. To connect with people who share similar passions. To share ideas with them. This has allowed me to understand myself and my environment better. I have expanded my thinking. Now I am a much more confident and motivated person.

What are you using social media to do in your life?

2008 Is Historic More Great Things To Happen - Congrats Obama!

Posted in General & social Networking & marketing & New Media & Blogging & personal growth & Network & thinking and ideas | 13:43

Barack Obama
YES WE CAN!
He was very clear.
These are times when the desire to lead is enough. Great change can happen with reasonable ease in a world today where people can connect easily, primarily enabled by the internet. Blogs and social networking allow people to have a voice they could never have. And it allows their voice to stretch as far and wide and they want it to. Grouping people behind a cause no longer is held back by geographical location, having a position of power nor costs.
Today more than ever the ease of communication and the ease at which an ideal/idea can spread worldwide is powerful.
2008 is a great year. we are seeing all kinds of tiny but fundamental changes in our atmosphere.

The power of a vision and great leaders who fight for them like Barack Obama, Martin Luther King, Gandhi and Nelson Mandela and so many other leaders, can now be amplified by the tools available in a world where the ability to connect has becoming so much easeir. Its no small thing what companies like Google and Facebook are enabling for human kind.
I am glad for the win, its really going to be an eye opening thing. Every black person worldwide should have reason to see a better them when they look into a mirror this morning.

I am excited by these times you know why?

Because you too can build a network? What network are you building today?

L.I.M.E - Cable And Wireless Caribbean Just Evolved

Posted in business & marketing & Mobile Technology & Blackberry & New Media & review | 02:30

Its been on my mind the whole day!
After browsing the new LIME website this morning,my mind has been racing all day.
Don't know what I am talking about?

photo of a lime
Its the "new company", Cable and Wireless is bringing to the people of the Caribbean - L.I.M.E. - Landline Internet Mobile and Entertainment. Its out with the old and in with LIME. Yes, Yes I know Cable and Wireless was not one of our favourite companies in the Caribbean., however they are saying its time for LIME!
I am saying its time for LIME too. What I am seeing from LIME has me rather impressed!

Yeah i heard that!
Yes I heard you whispering under your breathe "Corey is just stop ranting and raving, over nothing. Cable and Wireless will be Cable and Wireless."

Well, Well, Well ... I thought you would have given me more credit! I am not saying I am a fan of Cable and Wireless but you have to give Jack his jacket. Based on what I am seeing and hearing this re-branding goes much deeper than just a name. It looks to me like an evolution. It looks to me like it could be a company that people love. This re-branding doesn't have feel like a "fly by night" or "quick-fix" operation. Its not really a case where you just tell the people something to get them off our backs.
It appears to be a well thought out, cohesive effort to bring real value to the Caribbean people.

Here is something found that  I think might apply. I would say its something written by great man for dramatic effect, but I think I need to "keep it REAL" with you. lol.

Don't get stuck in the rut. You have got to be able to question what you are doing day to day. Pull yourself apart.  Take the time to review and analyze yourself and your environment. Admit honestly and with extreme clarity  your strengths and weaknesses,  successes and failures.Be realistic about your environment.  This is the hardest part coming now. Rebuild yourself from deep down in the foundation. Build yourself into the person you need to be to accomplish your dream. Corey Graham 2.0N

It seemed like Cable and Wireless has gone through this process and are now ready to bring something of real value to the Caribbean people...

"We’ve transformed into a new kind of telecoms company. With a new management structure (populated with the best and brightest people the region has to offer), improved customer service and exciting new products and services, such as our ambitious 3G network roll out, the change we’ve made runs a lot deeper than just our name."

3 G Networks are starting to pop up primarily in the developed world and  LIME is saying they are rolling it out? I am sorry but as a guy who likes my mobile technology and internet, that very, very exciting! Learn more about 3 G. (The main advantage is faster data transfer. i.e. streaming video/tv, video conferencing etc)
Its also my understanding, that the  E(entertainment) in LIME is going to be pretty huge also. We have been hearing the rumours of  IP TV and music downloads for a while now and all these other wonderful things can possibly happen and rather easily. The back bone has been now put in place with this new network, new focus along with the latest consumer technologies (iphoneGoogle's andriod phoneBlackberry StormVOIP & Skype, etc).
Photo of the Blackberry Storm
The stage is set for these rumours to become a reality!
That's what I agree its time 4 LIME.

The time is right. Its now to deliver the goods.

Providing that they do, working online might just become alot more profitable and fulfilling sooner rather than later. The value of online advertising and marketing will greatly increase as more and more Caribbean people get online. Along with the capacity for online tools to deliver the relavant marketing messages to the right people at the right time. As a result we will see that more and more companies large and small investing more time and energy into their online marketing and advertising. This would spark a situation where Caribbean Blogs, communities and other online real estate will grow in value. As they can better deliver the audience advertisers need. There is a world of possibility out there, let your mind wander!

That is one perspective on LIME, let me know what you think? You can share your perspective!

PS. To LIME the company formerly known as Cable And Wireless, please don't leave a bitter taste in our mouths. You know we, Caribbean People love a good "lime".

The Man Behind Facebook Speaks

Posted in General & Corey Graham 2.0 & Caribbean & business & social Networking & marketing & New Media & management & thinking and ideas | 03:05

I just came across a video of Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook as he was interviewed by Ryan Carson at the Future of Web Apps conference.

I though Ryan did a very good job of interviewing Mark. This is the first time that I've heard Mark speak about his passion  and ideas so openly. Mark shared some deep insights behind growing such an influencial company and communicated clearly what facebook is truly about. One thing you realise is that there is a strong sense of the vision and mission for facebook. I think that is very important to have everyone on the same page.
Mark explains makes is that people are getting increasingly more comfortable with sharing information and it essentially facebook's goal to facilitate this human need to share. Mark thinks it will lead to a better world where everyone can understand and appreciate each other more!

Yeah I went. Hmmm interesting when i heard it too...

Another point he made was that he ensured that facebook had a technical DNA. Basically, he ensured that most of the persons coming onto the facebook team had a technical background. He feels it allows them to make better decisions. WOW! ... I think that is a true gem right there.

Many of us can be found guilty of building up teams with people who do not fit our DNA!
Anyways enough of my rant.

Publicity Strategy Pays Off Big For Bandleader Brian Mc Farlane (TT)

Posted in General & soca & Trinidad Carnival & Trinidad & Caribbean & business & social Networking & marketing & New Media & Blogging | 03:25

I am not sure if you heard as yet, just over a week ago Band Leader Brian Mc Farlane owned the front page of every newspaper in the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Oh, and it was not on a weekday. It was on Sunday! Yup! The prime time spot.
No, he did not just get that placement because he is the two-time winner of the "Band of the Year" title in Trinidad Carnival. Nor did he purchase front page advertising in all the newspapers. Hmm, now there is a thought. Boi would I love to be able to have the kind of money! Can you imagine that purchasing that kind of advertising over the counter. Lol.
(Corey Graham 2.0 stops and looks into his wallet imagining)

Right focus boi and write the blog post! Ok from Dreamland...

I was making the point that he was able to accomplish this feet by being REMARKABLE ...worth making a REMARK about. Seriously, the man asked the media to be ready for pick up at 5:30 am on Saturday morning! Power to them! Maybe my team and I could have gone there after covering something exciting on the Friday night. I am not sure how the logistics of getting out of bed at the time would work out. lol.

Anyways the media who did make it had no clue where they were going to end up! They only knew they were getting on a shuttle to be driven to the location for the presentation... "Up in de bush" (forested location).Yup, I am sure the media were a little surprised by that.
Brian Mc Farlane launched his band in the middle of nowhere! To add to the story... Lets stop here for a minute. Notice who is the story teller here. Brian is. Not the journalist. This man was "making news"
I was saying...To add to his story, 50 dancers, singers and drummers came forth from the forest to present 19 costumes to the 25 journalists on hand. Thatis howBrian Mc Farlane's Trinidad Carnival 2009 Presentation Africa : Her People, Her Glory, Her Tears.

Here are some video clips I found on youtube of the launch.

Also check out Saucy Trini's "ball by ball" review of the Media launch http://www.trinidadcarnivaldiary.com/2008/10/story-of-africa.html

Now tell me if that is not worth making a remark about?
Well he was justly rewarded for his efforts by being highlighted on page 1 and 2 of every daily newspaper in Trinidad. I should also make mention of Mango Media Caribbean and Judette Coward-Puglisi who was his partner in crime for this marketing/publicity stunt! Judette wrote an enlightening post about it on her blog 5 AM At Mango Media Caribbean, check out her post here.
http://www.mangomediacaribbean.com/blog/index.cfm/2008/10/14/Strategic-media-thinking-pays-off-for-mas-maker-Brian-Mc-Farlane.

Yes Judette, Its my pleasure to pitch and give you some "free" publicity for the great work. (send my mango in fed ex! thanks alot!)

Seriously, though its a great story to tell not just on pages 1 and 2 of the daily newspapers, but its also a story worth blogging about, worth sending to friends in email and worth being the topic of a worthwhile conversation! a.k.a. Word of Mouth the best kinda of marketing there is.

So do you anything as exciting in your marketing/promotion plan?

Offline Value Created Online

Posted in General & Corey Graham 2.0 & business & social Networking & marketing & New Media | 21:48

Now that its has been almost 2 years of blogging and consistently evolving my online social footprint.  I am now appreciating how the internet helped me along in delivering my message to different persons around the globe.
I can remember how much courage to took to get myself into the routine of expressing myself online.
It takes lot of courage to rant...lol to do things like interview yourself etc. Lol,
It does, it really does take courage to present your ideas and experiences to persons in the world.
Before I got started I wondered,
... I hope people can understand and respect my ideas and see where I am coming from. This was a decent-sized fear for me, as have not so conventional perspectives and I know very well that I can come across pretty abstract at times...
Once I actually made the commitment to share my ideas on a regular basis with you.  I am realizing that your understand and you are appreciating me more. I am also able to understand and appreciate your perspectives more.

I have gotten a chance to listen to converse with you and engage you in conversation on a range of topic. Not always in a public forum .. But I hear your thoughts and ideas. As a result I appreciate you a lot more!

When persons understand each other its not peculiar to one medium.... Having a meeting or talking on the phone. And so your online credibility transfers in the offiline.

One thing I find key about online and blogs is that I am not defined to a particular time or space. There is no box. Well if you decide to not have a box. Blogs and social networks gives you the power to interact and share your ideas with several people. Unlike offiline where you are confined to a particular time and space,

Corey Graham 2.0 cannot be enclosed in a box.

The Corey Graham 2.0 Ideology

Posted in Corey Graham 2.0 & Caribbean & Drenalin & business & social Networking & marketing & New Media & Blogging & personal growth & Network & thinking and ideas | 04:22

I've had a very interesting night, which started off with me having to defend my new Corey Graham 2.0 logo. A case was brought to me that it was not marketable, or was not commercial enough.... It made me think. After speaking with someone close to me it, sparked me to communicate and to express a few things to you.

Now over the course of 2008 I have invested a tremendous amount of time and energy in developing and maintaining my online social footprint through my various blogs and social network profiles. I am not trying to sell anything to anyone, I am merely trying to create a relationship with other persons out there who share my views etc. I charge people with the full responsibility to make a decision as to if they want to be a part of this relationship, to read, follow and comment on my blogs or choose if they want to add me as a friend on the various social networks.
Yes I am charging you to make your own decision. I am not trying to force things down your throat....
Much of marketing today has come down to forcing things onto people that don't need. Or better yet to persuade them that they need it. Although it adds no real value to their lifes.
The consumer is not charged with the responsibility to make the decision, in many cases there is complete disregard for your intentions...you know that. I can see you nodding your head now!

Recently I have been taking the time dig deep lay the foundations for my long range plans. To really live my dreams. As I understand it my core assets are my creativity and my passion for teamwork and building up people.....
If I can do nothing more that help/inspire others unleash their potential and achieve greatness, I will be satisfied with my life.
If I can become the type of person that you do not "spend time with", but rather you invest time. Then I am good, my life is complete.

5 years ago I received a dream for a company Drenalin Productions to develop and build Caribbean creativity. Following this dream has caused me see the darkest times in my life over the last 5 years.  I had more than my fair share of humbling experiences in that time, some sparks of brilliance but most of all ALOT of learning. Today though, I can honestly say that I play my part in motivating and inspiring people to unleash their potential and go after their dreams. I can't yet describe for you how I do it but I can tell you where it started. I started with me, I motivated myself to go after my dreams and one day I looked up and saw others doing the same!
Now more than ever is the time to get moving on your dreams. Seth Godin puts it as "small is the new big". where the power of the internet is creating massive opportunities for all kinds of small entities.

Drenalin Productions mission is to create, build, and support innovation in the Caribbean Diaspora by developing successful products and services for a creative life.

Now guess what ??? Corey Graham 2.0 brand is a product of Drenalin Productions. Let me explain ...

Drenalin is a dream
A perception of a reality that exists in the mind
A source of ENERGY and STRENGTH
Bounded only by the thoughts created in the mind
It is a Dream
Now this developing sense of hope

Sparks the adrenaline flow,
Arousing the senses
Stimulating the mind and
Creating a surge that is
THE ULTIMATE DRENALIN EXPERIENCE

A DRENALIN PRODUCTION

Corey Graham 2.0 is a personal brand that is really about living your dream and approaching your professional life in a creative way. This is reflected in my personal branding and my logo. It all starts from a simple idea..... this thought embodies the core concept.

I don't feel like ideas come into my head to die there. (Karen Richardson. poet)

I am aiming to build relationships with persons who are living their dreams and approaching their professional life in a creative way. My logo and all other CG 2.0 endorsed projects will reflect this....

There still might be another 5 years until I can get Drenalin Productions off the ground in totality, however I felt like I needed to communicate this for some general clarity. I'm not a hussler.

Brewsters Road Taught Me A Marketing Lesson!!!!!

Posted in soca & Trinidad Carnival & festivals & Corey Graham 2.0 & BoomTribe & Crop Over & St. Lucia Carnival & Barbados & Vincy Mas & business & marketing & festival & thinking and ideas | 10:05

Brewsters Road Crew reinforced a valuable marketing lesson I learnt at the start of this 2008 summer period during my time under "house arrest".

Summer didn't quite turn out as I had envisioned it. As a Vincy Mas Virgin, I was looking forward to my "first experience" of Vincy Mas 2008 then I was anxious to return to St. Lucia Carnival 2008 for a second consecutive "first experience" lol.... but it was not meant to be.
Without any warning I was reduced to BirdMan 2.0, just 2 weeks before Vincy Mas final weekend. I officially had Chicken Pox and was confined to my bedroom for 2 weeks!!!!
Those trips to Vincy Mas and St. Lucia Carnival morphed into distant dreams, the shadows of a former reality .... into just another episode of 'wishful thinking'.
I could really appreciate how those Olympic hopefuls feel, when they manage to injure themselves just before the Olympic Games. Their dreams crushed. Well hmmm, maybe its 1000 times more magnified for them.. Anyways I made the most of my appointment to the BirdMan 2.0 post, once I had that a lifeline to the internet I was happy! Once I could communicate and blog.

(Backstage manager - stop rambling and "showing off" - just get to the blasted point - Corey Graham 2.0 or whatever u call yourself.. )

CG 2.0 - Alrite!!!

During my daily online sweep as Birdman 2.0, I came across a speech delivered by one of my favourite bloggers & marketing gurus, Seth Godin at TED : Ideas Worth Spreading.
(TED is an annual conference brings together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes)Click here for more info on TED)

Seth Godin's speech, on making ideas spread really hit me hard, and got me thinking. I posted almost immediately to this blog. And then I saw it play out with Brewsters Road Crew extraordinary success over the Crop Over 2008 season.
Let me share the perspective with you.

It would help alot if you watch the video first,

Click here for video of Seth's speech

I strongly recommend that you take the time to watch the video. Its highly recommended by Corey Graham 2.0.

Brewsters Road Crew (www.brewstersroadcrew.com) are known for their hardcore partying during carnival season. This was what fueled their concept for their events. They wanted to create events that hardcore partiers like themselves would enjoy.
The party would not end till 8, 9, 10, 11 am the next day, it was to be wall to wall soca. All soca, and All Party. There was even a cage made to lock up people who did not party hard enough.

Brewsters Road Crew focused on the people on the fringes. They focused on those people who are passionate about carnival, they focused on hardcore party people. They didn't try to be mass market. They chose a niche market and focused on it. I am sure that those persons enlisted to assist them, were clear on the vision for the events.  And it spread...
Their idea spread. It caught on like wild fire, like the ipod or the blackberry. They were able to cross over into many different markets and age groups simply because they had something which was REMARKABLE. They had something worth talking about.

It was definately worth talking about. It was REMARKABLE. I would never forget going to Brewsters Road this year.

  • Its packed from 11 pm and the crowd just kept coming.
  • At 3 am - 4 am when you usually expect the crowd to lessen, it just thickened.  People left other events and went to Brewsters Road after.
  • Door closed at 2 am, with tonnes of people still outside, and the venue is big!
  • Event organizers had big headaches just trying to get artistes slated to perform through the mob of people outside trying to get in.
  • Waiting outside in a line to go in a fete at 2 am is something foreign to Barbados, but for brewsters road, closing the door at 2 am as a standard

Brewsters Road the best thing since sliced bread? Maybe .. spread the idea.

Why am I 2.0?

Posted in General & Corey Graham 2.0 & business & social Networking & marketing & New Media & Blogging & personal growth & Network | 11:28

Its interesting how names can stick to you without too much effort. All it takes is for a few people to call you by a new nickname and suddenly it spreads like a wildfire, soon people you don't know are calling you, Corey Graham 2.0. I am not complaining, I am loving it after all its me that coined Corey Graham 2.0!!! lol....

The Inspiration!
I want to take the time to publicly describe Why 2.0? Its about time, many of you have been asking since I launched Corey Graham 2.0 in November of 2007 - check it out here on my D'Journey blog. It has most certainly been a Journey thus far!
Well then, here goes. One day I was in the most beautiful West Indian garden, filled with hibiscus of every colour and crotons. The form of the hibiscus dancing in the wind ignited in my soul the inspiration to become 2.0. I wished it was that poetic!!!! It didn't really happen like that, maybe next time!
The 2.0 primarily relates to web 2.0, along with a general desire to take my life and career to the next level.

2.0 the Social Footprint
I know that a few of have grasped that my becoming 2.0 means that I have my social footprint/ online presence in order. You can find me with a profile on all the major social networks where "de caribbean massive" congregate....

It does not end of it though. That was just the first stage, social networking. My life is much more integrated with Web 2.0 technologies than just my social footprint. Being a part of social networks leads to one of 3 things -  personal branding, networking or marketing.
However I use all these new web 2.0 technologies to do sooooo much more-

And still more are coming.

Many of the services I use are online and accessible via my browser. When I sign on to a pc, I generally have 2 types of programs open.

  1. a browser - usually firefox and flock
  2. instant messenger programs - msn, google talk and skype mainly

The best part about this that that I am not tied to an particular pc. At a minute's notice I can switch to another once it has a decent internet connection. I might only be tied to a particular pc if I am doing production work in terms of editing photos or video.

Now that is why I call myself Corey Graham 2.0!

P.S. I have to thank the John Jantsh form DuctTapeMarketing.com whose marketing advice has formed the foundation of the 2.0 crusade. He says make sure your marketing is consistent and unifor and to take some time each day to do some small piece of marketing, and it will add up. It certianly has over the past few months. Thanks John!

Name & Logos Don't Matter Brands Do

Posted in Corey Graham 2.0 & Caribbean & business & marketing & personal growth & thinking and ideas | 20:41

My previous post must have my regular readers and subscribers confused at the moment, wondering how am I only just naming the blog after almost 5 months of serious blogging.

Do Names matter .... Really Do they?

The truth is this blog never did quite have a name! The previous title was simply "Corey Graham 2.0". It was initially put there by the web architect as a placeholder, so that he could do his tests and get the blog up and running, but I never did change it till now!
When I first saw the blog I was in love with the layout than anything else! After that novelty wore off, I turned my attention to writing great posts. I felt that was were I needed to focus my attention and take the time to make sure that my blog is bringing real value to my readers and subscribers..... I was really feeling the pressure.

Doing the Reverse Value First Name after!

I used to worry more about the appearance of things rather than focus on the value that my chosen product brought to its audience. There was not enough time spent on making sure that my product was really connecting with the audience. Usually, whenever I had an idea, I would spend a tremendous amount of time and energy into finding the right name and then creating a perfect symbol/logo and less on the value it was to deliver.
It became obvious from my successes and failures that when it comes down to it,  people want value, they want a job well done! Once they get that, then they won't mind some fluff on top of that....they will tolerate it, even enjoy it.
But when there is no value/low value, there is a zero tolerance for the fluff. I don't want to be the one to smile and say "Have a nice day" to a customer who feels robbed.

Changed focus - Providing Value
My focus now is to ensure that value is truly being delivered to the people. I will start with the core things and then build out the fluff after. This whole "Corey Graham 2.0" is my pet project for practicing this changed focus. I have total control and that makes it an honest test of my understanding. They say you learn by doing right? So I am doing.
This blog is only just getting an official name, and there is no official symbol/logo for Corey Graham 2.0, however I am already sure I am providing a great deal of value to people around me and through my posts based on the comments of my readers and subscribers (on the blog and off the blog.)

The Corey Graham 2.0 Story
Last November with 2008 fast approaching, I had made a list of things I wanted to accomplish in 2008. As I thought about more about 2008 the idea hit me to call myself Corey Graham 2.0. It would add a little fun, and it was a way to get people around me more involved. When people call me CG 2.0, it would be a reminder for me to stay focused on my goals. 2.0 was mainly just about taking it to the next level.
I was really creating the environment for me to succeed, making it public so that I would live up to the goals and stay focused.
There were no big long speeches, no great fanfare. And little did I know the DNA for the new "brand" was built with my 2008 resolutions and then coded into Corey Graham 2.0. And then it began
I started making the changes to take things to the next level and become this Corey Graham 2.0. I made sure to remain simple, consistent and focused.
Over time Corey Graham 2.0 spread into my email name and signature into social networks etc. Across all platforms the message was simple, consistent and focused.
And it was successful! Corey Graham 2.0 is now almost as common place, people call me it all the time now, and ask me what it means. People I have just met ask me about it. Its always in my face.
The full explanation of what Corey Graham 2.0 means is in  the next post, coming tomorrow - Why am I 2.0?

Another LLU (Life Lesson University) Lesson Learnt - What is a Brand?
After years and years of new ideas and many new initiatives started and several names cast out in public the life lesson was finally learnt.
I finally completed another LLU (Life lessons University)  course.....

A brand is not a nice sounding name, its not a flashy new logo, nor is it even a name like Corey Graham 2.0.The brand at its is very core are a set of beliefs, goals, ideals for an entity. Its really like the DNA of a company or organization. It answers questions like What is this?
  • Why does it exist?
  • What does it do?
  • What are the emotions involved?
  • And it answers them clearly!

Once you got all the covered then you slap a name and logo on top of that and invest your time, energy and resources into making this name and logo represent the brand.
Its investing in manifesting the brand in a physical form. Yes so that you can communicate the entire brand through a name or a logo.

A cool name is just that - a cool name
A cool logo is just that a cool logo
But a brand is so much more...
